A family farm.
A question.
An experiment.
Open Source Coffee started with a simple question:
What can this farm become?
My family has been connected to coffee farming in Roldanillo, Colombia, for generations.
The farm is still there. Some coffee is still being harvested. But part of it has been dormant for years.
I now live and work in Spain, far from the farm.
Rather than making assumptions about what it should become, I'm going back to understand what is already there — the land, the coffee, the infrastructure, the people, the costs and the possibilities.
Open Source Coffee is a way of documenting that process openly.
No predetermined outcome.
No polished story written in advance.
Just the experiment.
The person behind the experiment.
I'm Juan Ruiz.
Designer. Content specialist. Coffee obsessive. And part of the next generation of a Colombian coffee family.
I didn't grow up working full-time on the farm. That's precisely why I'm approaching this as an experiment rather than pretending to have all the answers.
I live in Spain and plan to work with people on the ground in Colombia to understand, test and gradually develop Farm 01.
Want to talk about the project?
Open Source Coffee is an open experiment, and I'm interested in hearing from people who want to know more, share an idea, collaborate, or simply talk coffee.
An informal conversation about the farm, coffee, the project or potential collaborations.
